Help and support

After leaving

  • Talk to a professional. Whether you feel fine or not, a counselor or therapist can help you sort through what happened.
  • Choose your next church carefully. People who leave a controlling church sometimes end up in another one. Take your time, and watch how leaders respond to questions.
  • Read the Bible for yourself. Without the meetings and expectations, there is time to read what Scripture says in its own context.

Raising concerns with authorities

If you experienced abuse by someone in a position of authority, you can report it to the police. Christian Fellowship Ministries churches are registered as charities in several countries, and charity regulators accept concerns from the public.

Journalists are another route. Many of the reports in this archive started with former members who contacted a newspaper.
