Is There a Potter’s House Reddit Community for Former Members?

There is a Potter’s House Reddit community: r/PottersHouseCult, a public subreddit for English-speaking former members, relatives, and anyone with questions about The Potter’s House, The Door, Victory Chapel, or another congregation of Christian Fellowship Ministries (CFM), the network often shortened to The Fellowship. It exists alongside the Facebook groups listed on this site’s contact page, and it solves the two problems Facebook cannot: Reddit does not expect your real name, and it does not require you to have a Facebook account at all.

What the subreddit is for

The subreddit is a discussion space, and the division of labor with this site is deliberate. The documented record — court cases, press investigations, the church’s own publications, named testimony. The conversation lives on Reddit: former members comparing experiences, relatives asking what a loved one has joined, and current members reading quietly while they weigh their own questions. Because the subreddit is public, reading it requires no account of any kind.

Why a Potter’s House Reddit group instead of Facebook?

Facebook’s culture, and its groups, run on real names, and its ex-member groups display their membership lists to other members. For discussing this particular church, that is a documented liability rather than a detail. The Fellowship’s response to public criticism is to go after the critic instead of the criticism; members have described being watched and reported on inside the congregation; and former members report the practice of prayers directed against people who leave and speak. A current member with doubts, or a member’s relative, has reasons to ask questions under a name that cannot be carried back to a pastor.

The reviews of this site’s book supply the same point from experience. One former member, in a published Amazon review, described being taught never to listen to anyone who spoke a word against CFM, and finding the first people who understood his doubts in online communities. That is the gap the subreddit fills for people who will never put their name on a Facebook post.

The limits: Reddit is pseudonymous, not anonymous

Two honest cautions belong in any invitation. First, Reddit offers pseudonymity rather than anonymity: an account with your usual username, or posts full of identifying detail, can be traced to you. The guidance on this site’s contact page applies here in full — use a Reddit account with a username that cannot be connected to you personally, and leave out details that identify you or your congregation if you are still inside. The subreddit is public, which means current members and leadership can read it, and there is no reason to assume they do not.

Second, pseudonymous accounts prove less than named ones, and a fair reader should treat them that way. A Reddit thread is somebody’s word under a username; the documented cases on this site rest on named sources and primary records precisely because that standard is harder to dismiss. The two formats check each other: where anonymous threads and the named record describe the same practices independently, the agreement itself is worth something, and where a claim appears only in an anonymous post, it stays a claim.

How to join r/PottersHouseCult

Create a Reddit account under a neutral username, or use none at all if you only want to read, and join at reddit.com/r/PottersHouseCult. Those who prefer conversation under real names will find the public and private Facebook groups on the contact page, and anyone ready to put an account on the record — with their name or without it — can send a lengthy email through the same page explicitly asking for it to be published for the testimonies archive.
